Eco Schools Green Flag Awarded to Coquet Park First School for the THIRD time!

Coquet Park First School were joined by special guest, Mrs Ord  in a special celebration assembly and afterwards the whole school watched as they hoisted their 3rd Eco Schools Green Flag.

Over the last 2 years staff, pupils and the wider community have ensured that sustainability continues to be at the heart of school life.

A dedicated team of Green Ambassadors from Year 1 to Year 4 have worked on a number of projects involving recycling, up-cycling, energy saving and water conservation. The Fair Trade committee, allotment club and forest school activities means that children in Coquet Park First School have a wide and varied curriculum.

Green Ambassador of the Year

2016 - 2017

Congratulations to Oscar who was awarded the Green Ambassador of the Year award.  Well done Oscar, great job!!

April 2017

It has been a busy half term for our Green ambassadors. We took part in Eco Schools 'Waste Week' with the theme 'Up-cycling'.

We met every Wednesday lunch time and with the help of Mrs Glenwright, we took things destined for the bin and made something new from them.

April 2017 - Wash, Squash, Recycle!

Our Green Ambassadors were very excited to share the news with the rest of the school that we have been lucky winners this term of £100 from North Tyneside council's Wash, Squash, Recycle campaign. We had an assembly on recycling followed by a presentation of the award.

March 2017 - Suez Visit

The Green Ambassadors had a visit from the recycling company SUEZ and they showed us how to make paper from old newspapers!

We also planted Spring flowers in some old welly boots, made each teacher a pencil pot from plastic water bottles and we used a cereal box and made it into a handy box file.

Homes for the Future

As part of their 'Homes' topic last half term, Year 4 children were asked to research, design and make models of a sustainable, environmentally friendly home of the future. Each group worked really hard and produced a model house equipped with the latest environmentally friendly products. We were delighted to have Luca's Dad visit the class to discuss some of their ideas and share his knowledge.

Litter Pick

Some of our Green Ambassadors took part in a litter pick around school and were amazed at how much litter they collected!

WWF Design a Panda Competition

Congratulations to Oscar Hicks who was a runner up in the WWF design a panda competition in conjunction with the release of Kung Fu Panda 3. He designed a beautiful panda and won a Kung Fu Panda goodie bag and certificate.

Earth Hour

We held a whole school assembly about climate change and the work of WWF. Year 3 made paper lanterns for WWF Earth Hour to highlight our need to help stop climate change.  For more information about the WWF Earth Hour please visit their website  www.earthhour.wwf.org.uk

Year 4 collected their spare change in a large water bottle to donate to WaterAid. They each wrote a water wish for the world and managed to raise an impressive £117.00.  Well Done Year 4!
