We've arrived!!

We have arrived to beautiful weather in Kielder. After discovering which rooms we are in and the excitement of making our own beds, we headed down to the reservoir. We split into 3 groups and set off in our bell boats. Upon arrival at the island, we played a fantastic game of camouflage. Some of the group were excellent at hiding! After that, we paddled to the next part of the reservoir and found some giant spinning chairs. The final part of this trip was a race back to shore with Team Competitive Cairns winning!! Some of us chose to jump into the lake and I can confirm it was freezing! We have played some evening games and are now settling down ready for a restful sleep – hopefully.

The fun continues...

We woke to another beautifully sunny day today. We split into 3 groups this morning with a variety of exciting activities such as the climbing wall, crate stacking and archery. Everyone set themselves some personal targets with many exceeding their own expectations. This afternoon, we all headed down to the shore and split back into our 3 teams to construct rafts. It was hard work, especially learning how to tie the ropes but we got there in the end and our reward was to paddle our raft to the island. We have just had a delicious meal and are now relaxing before completing our evening activities of problem solving, team building and the adventure course.

Campfire craziness!

We’re midway through this year’s Hawkhirst adventure and having a great time. Everyone is thoroughly enjoying themselves and pushing what they thought they could achieve. This morning we split into our 3 groups to complete a variety of activities such as orienteering, zip wire, archery and climbing. This afternoon was a walk in the woods to the famous Birds of Prey Sanctuary which is one of the highlights of the week. The children were mesmerised by Ray who gave us a talk and demonstration using a Barn Owl, European Eagle Owl, Black Kite, and many more. The children were able to handle some of these beautiful creatures and loved every minute. We are just back from our annual campfire and spent the last hour singing, dancing and eating toasted marshmallows.

Dynamic Den Building!

The children have just finished spending their remaining money at the Hawkhirst shop and have headed out for their final evening activity of; problem solving, team building or the adventure course. My group are currently trying to balance 10 nails on 1 nail and not finding it easy! Earlier, we spent the morning abseiling, orienteering or on the infamous zip wire. This afternoon, we completed our bush craft challenges, learning to start a fire, cooking bread on a stick and making dens. We split into our usual 3 groups to make the shelters that had to; fit everyone in, have a ‘cool’ feature AND keep everyone dry when storm Patricia hit. Some dens were better than others at keeping the children dry J. Everyone had great fun and we are completely exhausted now.

Goodbye - Farewell - Auf Wiedersehen - Goodnight

Goodbye Hawkhirst and thank you. We had a blast!
