Welcome to Nursery

Who are we?

We are 3 and 4 year old pupils joining Coquet Park First School for the first time.  We attend Nursery every morning from 9.00 – 12.00.  We have our own entrance and playground.

 Who looks after us?

Mrs Turner, the class teacher, welcomes the children into class. Mrs Banks and Ms Pearcy are the Key Workers. They all work together to develop our learning.

Ms Pearcy is the Key Worker supporting children in the Red Fire Engines group and Mrs Banks is the Key Worker supporting children in the Yellow Diggers group. Ms Pearcy and Mrs Banks share information between home and nursery and work very closely with Mrs Turner.

This half term we are looking at animals, beginning with pets.  We opened our very own grooming salon in nursery and brought in a soft toy pet from home to wash, dry, cut and style!

What do we do?

Mrs Turner plans all of our activities around the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile.  There are seven areas of learning for Early Years:

  • Personal Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts.

Nursery activities are planned with 30-50 months objectives in mind, but as the year progresses, elements of 40-60 months objectives are included.

We have plenty of free time during the morning to choose our own activities such as  sand, water, role play, construction, practical maths opportunities, creative area and mark making .  We often work in small groups in the classroom and outdoor area.

The parachute is so much fun!  We play 'hiding mouse' underneath it, 'around the world' on top of it and we are even learning how to move it in time to some classical music!

Whilst the tigers made kites in Forest School, the lions and bears enjoyed looking after their pets in the sunshine!

During the morning we share a story while enjoying fruit and milk in a small group.

At Nursery we make lots of new friends and have fun enjoying exciting and interesting activities both indoors and outside.  We have a small sensory garden at the entrance to Nursery and a wildlife garden, located the back of the main school,  which we help to look after.

Every Thursday,  Ms Pearcy and Mrs Stores take a small group of nursery children to our woodland area for Forest School.  The children always look forward to their Forest School session where they learn  all about the natural environment and enjoy making woodland crafts.

During the year, we enjoy many visits in the local area including The Rising Sun, Jam Jar Cinema and the whole school Beach Day.

We had great fun on the school field today, we enjoyed running races, hurdles and bean bags!  We're warming up for our sport's day picnic!

We love having a 'dough disco' in nursery!  We each have a small piece of play dough in our hands and whilst we dance to the music we also  have to follow the routine which helps to strength the muscles in our hands and  improve our fine motor skills.
