Welcome to Reception Class

Who are we?

We are 4 and 5 year old pupils starting school for the full day.  We have friends in Year Four to help us at play times and assemblies or if we need someone to play with.  There are always friendly staff who help the class during lunch and play times.

 Who looks after us?

Miss Elliott (Deputy Headteacher) is our class teacher and Mrs Stores and Ms Pearcy are teaching assistants in Reception Class.

What do we do in class?

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage for our lessons.  Whenever possible, we have access to the outdoors and we don't let the rain or snow stop us - everyone has wellies and waterproofs, even the teachers.  Many of our activities are practical and often involve paint and making a mess.

We share our learning at school through a 'Home/School Diary'. We share the times which are special at home with the class in a small group. At home the diary is special as we can talk about the experiences at school through photographs and notes from the teacher over the week. Miss Elliott, our class teacher, enjoys talking to parents and carers.

In the first term we have a sound book and learn one letter sound a night - did you know there are about 42 sounds in the English Language?  We also have a reading book which we read at home and in school at least twice a week.

One of our favourite lesson is P.E. especially when we use the big apparatus. We have P.E. regularly and in the Summer term we also go swimming at Waves.

On a Friday we can choose a book from the school library to take home for the week - we have a lot of lovely stories.

We are learning all about Traditional Tales this half term, starting with The Gingerbread Man.  We even made our own Gingerbread Men to take home - delicious!!

We came to school dressed as a character from our favourite book on World Book Day!
