Who are we?
We are 3 and 4 year old pupils joining Coquet Park First School for the first time. We attend Nursery every morning from 9.00 – 12.00. We have our own entrance and playground.
Who looks after us?
Mrs Turner, the class teacher, welcomes the children into class. Mrs Richardson and Ms Pearcy are the Teaching Assistants. They all work together to develop our learning.
What do we do?
Mrs Turner plans all of our activities around the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. There are seven areas of learning for Early Years:
Nursery activities are planned with 30-50 months objectives in mind, but as the year progresses, elements of 40-60 months objectives are included.
We have plenty of time during the morning to choose our own activities such as sand, water, role play, construction, practical maths opportunities, creative area and mark making . We often work in small groups in the classroom and outdoor area.
During the morning we share a story while enjoying fruit and milk in a small group. We also divide into Lions, Tigers, and Bears for more directed activities - such as phonics, numbers, and fine motor skills.
At Nursery we make lots of new friends and have fun enjoying exciting and interesting activities both indoors and outside.
Every Wednesday, Ms Pearcy and Mrs Stores take a small group of nursery children to our woodland area for Forest School. The children always look forward to their Forest School session where they learn all about the natural environment and enjoy making woodland crafts.
During the year, we enjoy visits in the local area including to The Jam Jar Cinema in Whitley Bay and the whole school Beach Day.
Nursery have loved learning all about bears this half term. They know lots of facts about different types of bears around the world, they have written bear facts and stories and have looked after poorly bears in our teddy hospital. Finally, they had an amazing time at the teddy bear's picnic at the end of our topic.
Nursery have had a very exciting STEM week alongside the rest of the school. They have been investigating lots of STEM questions, and then reporting back their findings to their friends. They have explored floating and sinking, weighing and balancing, freezing and melting, colour changing and have built numerous models and machines with our construction toys. What a lot of clever scientists and engineers we have!
Forest School is so much fun! The Lions, Tigers or Bears go every Wednesday.

A fire engine visited school and Nursery were invited to take a look. They even got to have a turn of the very powerful hoses!
