Welcome to Nursery

Who are we?

We are 3 and 4 year old pupils joining Coquet Park First School for the first time. We attend Nursery every morning from 8.50 – 11.50. We have our own entrance and playground.

 Who looks after us?

Mrs Turner, the class teacher, welcomes the children into class. Miss Richardson is our teaching assistant. They work together to develop our learning.

What do we do?

Mrs Turner plans all of our activities around the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile.  There are seven areas of learning for Early Years:

  • Personal Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Art and Design

Nursery activities are planned with the three and four year old objectives in mind.

We have plenty of time during the morning to choose our own activities such as  sand, water, role play, construction, practical maths opportunities, creative area and mark making .  We often work in small groups in the classroom and outdoor area.

During the morning we share a story while enjoying fruit and milk in a small group. We also divide into smaller groups for more directed activities - such as phonics, numbers, and fine motor skills.

At Nursery we make lots of new friends and have fun enjoying exciting and interesting activities both indoors and outside.

Every Tuesday,  Mrs Stores and Miss Richardson take a small group of nursery children to our woodland area for Forest School.  The children always look forward to their Forest School session where they learn all about the natural environment and enjoy making woodland crafts.

During the year, we enjoy visits in the local area including to The Jam Jar Cinema in Whitley Bay and the EYFS Beach Day.

Percy the Park Keeper

We have been reading Percy the park keeper stories and have transformed the outdoor area into Percy's park.  There are lots of jobs for Percy to do and the children are enjoying looking after all the animals, keeping the park clean and tidy and doing some planting.  The garden is looking lovely and we have even made a scarecrow to keep our plants  safe from the birds.

STEM week

Autumn

Autumn has arrived and the children have been collecting lots of signs of Autumn for our Autumn table.    They love using the magnifiers and were very interested when we cut open some of our Autumn fruits and vegetables.  We have also been having lots of fun with conkers - rolling them down the ramps and having conker races!

Forest School

We are pleased to say Forest School has started and the children are enjoying exploring our forest area.  Mrs Stores and Miss Richardson have been introducing the forest school rules, so everyone can play safely and have lots of fun.

The Autumn weather has been a bit wet so far, but the children are getting all wrapped up in their waterproofs and love getting stuck in with all the outdoor fun.
