Year 4

Who are we?

We are Year Four and we are the oldest class in the school.  We have lots of extra responsibilities and we help our teachers with jobs.  We also take special care of the children in Reception class when they are playing in the playground, especially when they first start school.

Who teaches us?

Miss Foster teaches us on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning and Mrs Cairns teaches us on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday.  Mrs Glenwright is our teaching assistant.

In Year Four we begin to take more responsibility for our own learning and we try to work out how we learn best.  We celebrate achievement in all areas and recognise that we are all unique and each of us has a special talent.

We look forward to many new challenges as the oldest children in school. In May we visit Hawkhirst for a residential visit. This gives us the opportunity to try new experiences and work together.

This is us!

STEM - electricity and making torches
In Autumn 1 our science topic was electricity. We investigated how electrical circuits work, names the components within the circuit and tested which materials conduct electricity. We then used these skills during our DT work to create torches made from plastic bottles.
PE Golf and archery
This half term Access Coaching is teaching us golf and archery skills. We're loving both!
Harvest Day
Harvest was a little different than normal this year, but we still had great fun creating our harvest artwork and learning where our food comes from.

Open Morning

Year 4 hosted their annual welcome morning. We enjoyed a fun STEM activity with the parents. The parents and children were challenged to create the highest structure using only lolly pop sticks and blue tac.

Whole class violin lessons with Mrs Clark

Athletics Event

Year 4 took part in a fantastic Track and Field event at Whitley Bay High School. They competed in a variety of athletics events and represented the school extremely well.

STEM Event - Bring it On

Year 4 visited the ‘Bring it On’ STEM exhibition at The Beacon of Light on Wednesday 9th October. They spent the whole day taking part in activities set up by hundreds of STEM businesses that had set up stalls. They worked their way through the different zones learning about STEM opportunities in the North East, seeing and taking part in some amazing demonstrations. An amazing, inspiring day.

 Year 4 Reverse Eco Advent
This year, Year 4 decided to create a reverse Eco Advent Calendar. Here are some photos of the litter pick that we did.
We have also banned iPads for a day, brought yogurt pots for use in the greenhouse, turned off classroom lights and banned Mrs Cairns from using the interactive whiteboard for a day!

Great North Museum Trip

Year 4 had a great day out at the Great North Museum learning about Ancient Egypt.
