Online Safety Information for Parents
Navigating the online world can feel overwhelming, especially for parents who want to keep their children safe while still allowing them to explore and learn. At Coquet Park, we take online safety very seriously. E‑safety is built into both our Computing and PSCHE curriculums, and we use a strong internet filtering system called Smoothwall to help protect children whenever they use school devices. We talk about online safety regularly in lessons, and each year we explore the topic in even more depth during Safer Internet Day in February. Our curriculum also includes a dedicated Digital Literacy strand to help pupils understand how to use technology responsibly and confidently.
The online world changes quickly, with new apps, social media platforms and developments like artificial intelligence appearing all the time. Because of this, we work hard to stay up‑to‑date so we can support families effectively. We also encourage children to talk openly with staff about anything they come across online. By creating a safe, supportive environment, we help them build the confidence to make good choices and to come to trusted adults whenever they are unsure.
In the lead‑up to Safer Internet Day this year, we worked with Neil Brown, School Improvement Advisor for Computing. Neil delivered a practical and informative workshop to help families understand current online safety risks and how to support children at home. If you were not able to attend, you can access the presentation from the workshop here, or scroll down to view the slides below.
